Professional Associations
Professional associations are important resources for graduate students
as well as practicing information professionals. The services these
associations provide include networking opportunities, workshops and
seminars designed to update skills and competencies, and career resources.
Dialog supports professional associations by sponsoring events and
meetings and offering CE courses at annual conferences and workshops
at the chapter level.
Graduate school is a great time to join
these associations as they offer dramatically
discounted student memberships and the resources
they provide can be invaluable. Several professional
associations are listed with the biographies
of various Team
Members on the Quantum2 web
site. Specific information on student chapters
is available on the web site for each association.
Attending local or national programs and conferences offered by
associations can provide opportunities to talk to practicing professionals
and meet potential employers. You may even find out about job openings
that are not widely publicized or have not yet been announced. Many
associations offer scholarships to students to attend their annual
conferences—don’t pass up these opportunities!
